How do I calculate my pit strategy with the Pitstop Calculator?

First you need to prepare some basic information about the race for which you want to calculate your strategy for. Most importantly, the race duration, and average laptime in the race. Additionally, for longer races, the expected time loss in the pits, which current default is 90 seconds.

Furthermore, you will also need your Fuel and Virtual Energy consumption per lap information, to gather those, head out on track, drive 3 to 4 laps or however much it takes you to warm up the tires properly and get up to speed, and check in the Fuel MFD on the HUD your Fuel (L/lap) and Virtual Energy (%/lap) consumptions. Note that some cars do not use Virtual Energy and will not have this information.

Note that LMP2 and LMGTE class cars do not come with Virtual Energy, for these cars check what is their maximum Fuel capacity in the setup screen in Le Mans Ultimate as you will need this information in the Pitstop Calculator.

In the Pitstop Calculator first select the HYPERCAR/LMGT3 or LMP2/LMGTE, depending on which class of car you will be driving and input the gathered information. Once you are done, click the Calculate button.

I have the calculated strategy but am struggling to understand the information

When the strategy is calculated, it presents the calculated race information to you where you can find:

  • Laps
    • Min: Minimum number of laps the race is going to last
    • Safe: Added an extra lap on top of the minimum calculated laps to ensure you reach the end of the race
  • Fuel (Litres)
    • Min: Minimum amount of total Fuel required in the race
    • Safe: Total required Fuel for the Safe amount of laps in the race
  • Energy (%)*
    • Min: Minimum amount of total Virtual Energy required in the race
    • Safe: Total required Virtual Energy for the Safe amount of laps in the race
  • Fuel/VE Ratio*: Recommended Fuel/Virtual Energy ratio based on the provided consumption values which you set in your car setup

*Shown only for cars with Virtual Energy

Below the calculated race information the calculator will present at least one strategy with the recommended one always on top. The strategy contains detailed information about each stint, where each of them is in its own separate boxes with the following information:

  • `X` Laps: Number of total laps for the stint
    • (Save `Y` Laps): If this is a Fuel-Save strategy, the number of laps inside the parenthesis indicate how many laps worth of fuel you must save throughout the stint to reach the total of X laps.
  • Target (Per Lap): Target Fuel/Virtual Energy per lap consumption that you need to drive at or lower in order to be able to drive the X amount of laps
  • Requirements: Required Fuel/Virtual Energy for the full duration of the stint that you need to put in the car
  • Fuel ratio*: Fuel/Virtual Energy ratio based on the calculated consumption of Fuel and Virtual Energy
  • Pit Length: Amount of time lost for the stints pitstop - 1st stint is always 0 as you do not pit for the first stint

*Shown only for cars with Virtual Energy
